The Lexington Montessori School faculty, administration, and Executive Board recognize the extremely important role that family plays in the development of the child. We continue to work enthusiastically with families in our quest to serve each child’s needs.

We believe that successful family engagement is when all stakeholders in a child’s life—including parents, caregivers, community members, educators, and school staff—are actively included in supporting the development of the whole child.

By serving the “whole child,” we mean that we support each child’s academic, social, and emotional growth and wellbeing. This requires dynamic engagement and cooperation among stakeholders in a way that is inclusive and equitable. Through working together, we cultivate a diverse community in which learners—young and “old” alike—feel a sense of belonging.

To that end, LMS offers the following:

  • A weekly, school-wide newsletter

  • A private LMS Parents Facebook group

  • Several family events throughout the school year

    • Back-to-School picnic

    • Fall Harvest Festival

    • Autumn Music Program

    • Spring Night of Music (featuring music music theater)

    • Kindergarten Graduation

  • Family Education Nights throughout the year where families can learn more about:

    • How our classrooms operate,

    • Important aspects of the Montessori philosophy, and

    • Community resources available to them and their children.

Our classrooms provide:

  • Family-teacher conferences each semester;

  • “Someone Special” days each semester when students can select someone to visit their classroom;

  • An “open house” at the beginning and end of each semester;

  • Classroom newsletters;

  • Classroom-specific volunteer opportunities, such as leading lessons about select holidays, chaperoning field trips, and sharing cultural knowledge.
